Attachments are the stand out in the list of lust, anger, greed, attachments and ego that distort people’s achievement of their true selves.
Attachments to parents, siblings, nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, work colleagues, neighbours, fellow citizens, world citizens, teachers, religions, political parties, ideologies, and cultures, have shaped human consciousnesses consciously but more probably unconsciously throughout human history.
Attachments are the breeding ground of human discontent. They are the historically prevailing evils of the human mind.
So is the veneer of individual human consciousness only second hand? Is the real self – happy, content, existentially fulfilled beyond anything merely human – now buried beyond recognition under such temporary attachments?
The mystic experience reveals evolution is taking us to our true spiritual selves. Anything else seems to be mind stuff – temporary, distorting, non existent after physical death anyway.
(There is a spiritual tradition that we keep on being reborn until evolutionary processes remove attachments from our consciousnesses. I didn’t experience this in my spontaneous mystical experiences of Reality. Your experience may be different).
However, it should be noticed that in old age these attachments can become much less pronounced even to the point of disappearing.
Does this suggest evolution accelerates with age in some people as they approach death and their true spiritual destiny? Is Reality doing all this work without us?
Would Reality ever trust our involvement in our cosmic progress anyway?
Is humanity’s development strictly Reality’s business, not ours?
