There can be no doubt Meister Eckhart had the mystical experience of Reality, (MER) – an experience beyond any commonly outworn understanding of ‘God’ by the religions of today.
Just look at these two quotes taken from his writing:
Those who have never been familiar with inward things do not know what God is. Like a man who has wine in his cellar but has never tasted it, he does not know that it is good. (Sermon 10, DW I 164.5–8)[52]Wikipedia.
Whoever does not understand what I say, let him not burden his heart with it. For as long as a man is not like this truth, he will not understand what I say. For this is a truth beyond thought that comes immediately from the heart of God. (Sermon 52, DW II 506.1–3)[52]Wikipedia.
Through no choice, understanding, effort, or qualification known to man I was groomed as a mystic. So I can say out of this Knowing that I recognise as true every word Eckhart wrote here.
He really was a mystic whatever some scholars and others without mystic experience might say. They literally have not experienced what they are talking about!
So why does human history throw up these mystics who then try to grab the steering wheel of human destiny from Reality?
The clearly failed mission of the man Jesus of the Christian bible is another case in point. Like Eckhart and the others such as them, Jesus left no spiritual teachings, just a list of human interferences, moralities, and ethics.
Eckhart’s mistake was to attempt to cast the pearls of his MER before humanity, despite his acknowledgement in the quotes above that he realised MER is not available to the as yet unprepared …
Eckhart, like Jesus, got himself entangled in the primitive ignorances and machinations of the humanity of his time, despite them living in the age of Pontious Pilates and the likes of the iniquitous Inquisition.
My understanding is MER can only be caught, not taught. Only Reality can reveal the fullness of Itself as the Reality that rules all existence, (including mere mortals, humans …).
All Is Well.
