THE SELF

“Contemplating thus, that you are the Self, the formless ‘witness’ of the universe, be happy. The sorrows, the tensions, and the stresses of the world and its problems, our passions and our lusts, all end at once and naturally, there is a growing sense of peace and happiness flooding the bosom of the seeker as he moves towards the sanctum of the Self.”

  1. I have in my personal experience found those words to be true and it’s getting better each day. I refuse to ascribe any particular meaning to what’s happening but it’s certainly a change for the better.

  2. These sort of quotes are immensely relevant but I don’t find myself consulting these sort of texts anymore. I guess because these days I prefer the experience itself rather than reading about it.

  3. So you’ve found the Self, the great witness behind all this mess — good for you. While the rest of us are stuck in traffic, stressing about bills, and binge-scrolling doom, you’re telling us the sorrows dissolve like sugar in tea.

But maybe that’s the point. The world is noise. Passions, lusts, deadlines, wars, and Twitter arguments — all loud, all temporary. The one thing that doesn’t change is the watcher behind it. The trick is noticing you’re not the storm but the sky it rages in.

So yes, contemplate. Remember you’re not just the body aching for coffee or the mind chewing through problems. You’re the witness. And from that place, even for a moment, the chaos looks… almost funny.

Be happy, because what else is there?

    1. I think the point is that it is an attitude of mind you develop over the years, given endless practice. It is no miracle, in my view, no holy place. Just a very different form of consciousness which can be developed by anyone. Driven in part by a change of mind and it part by the chemicals which seems to result from one’s practice. A mild heroin drip, if you like. Without the downside.
