Q. Which comes first, God or Morality?
A. Where did you get that?
Q.A headline quote about Plato I think, it got me thinking.
A. Well let’s take his conception of ‘god’ to mean the Reality mystics have experienced throughout history. Modern mystics have a more developed experience.
The mystical experience of god/Reality that has developed since Plato reveals there is no choice between the merely human inference of mundane human order of which morality is a part, and the ineffable Reality mystics know now.
Morality and such like are nothing to do with the real cosmic existence mystics experience of a Reality beyond human explanation. Plato’s ‘god’ was insignificant by comparison.
In the modern mystics’ perception of the perfection of Reality there are no names, everything just is Reality and we are that.
Morality is a human word because ordinary humans are born with a need for such self defensive conceptions as morality, creations of the human mind, such as kindness, acceptance, helpfulness, justice, etc. The need for human defensiveness is best summed up in, “do unto others as you would have done unto you.” But that is not relevant in Reality.
So the answer to which comes first, morality or Reality there is no choice, Reality comes first. When called we hear and we obey willingly, joyfully, humbly and thankfully.
The rest of humanity is as if its still being milled, ground over and over again until ready for the revelations of the mystic experience of existence …
Reality goes on undisturbed. Reality does not need, seek, accept or allow human interference or help.
We may stray but we cannot stray far. We may not believe in Reality but Reality believes in us, in each of us, no matter what …
All Is Well.
As with morality, so with the concept of winning and losing. All human inventions which have no basis in reality. But probably not a good idea to suggest that to the Lionesses for a while. Nor to any serious English football fan…
